How to sell SEO…

I was reading today the post: How not to sell SEO, which was discussing an email as an example of how not to sell SEO. It was looking as a bad email link request :). Learning how not to sell SEO is good, but learning how to sell SEO is better.

Search engine optimization is a “hard to sell” service”, as it is hard to promise results. No seo expert, if he is sincere, could promise number 1 in search engines, so why someone would buy something he does not know he will get?

So we offer seo services. How do we sell our services?

The key in selling search engine optimization services is building the relationship with our customers. You do not want customers who do 10 hours seo and after that giving up your services. You want sites on which you can work long-term, as seo results are the best seen in time. So your relationship with the client could be built in time, based by trust. Site’s authority is built in time too, so you need time with your client to be able to build his site online presence. There will not be visible results in first week of seo, not for highly competitive keywords. But for highly targeted keywords, with low competition, results will appear fast and will help your clients to trust you.

How do you find your clients? An email could help, but only to build a relationship. You could give them suggestions to improve their sites; tell them something they did not notice - if they are not IT professionals and they did not design their site by themselves, probably they did not notice a lot of stuff :). Or give them some good ideas to promote their site. This means you spend some time for free consultancy, and you give free information away, but certainly you will build a relationship.
